Grammatical information: adj.Meaning: `transverse, crosswise, at a right angle' (ι 70, of ships, Hdt., Plb. etc.).Etymology: Also ἐγκάρσιος (Th.), after ἐναντίος ? Secondary simplex κάρσιον πλάγιον H., - ίως Suid. - Ultimately to κείρειν, ἐπικείρειν `cut' but in detail unclear.
